Welcome to the We Heart Books Virtual Book Exchange! Part of our vision, as the We Heart Books team, is to take the fun and excitement of a local book exchange, and turn it into something even bigger.Starting January 13th, book lovers far and wide will be getting together in one big virtual living room, and exchanging their favorite books!

What is a Virtual Book Exchange?

We are taking the idea of a real live book exchange {one hostess, multiple guests, one book each}, and turning it into an online event. So just like you would bring a book to swap with another guest at the party, you now have the opportunity to bring a book to the online party, partner up with another "guest" who shares your love of books, and exchange your favorites!

It takes more than one person to pull something like this off, so without further ado, I’d like to introduce you to our hostesses. If you have any questions, problems, or concerns, at all, these are your go-to ladies. Won’t you say hi?

Your Hostesses:

emilyheadshot Emily is a Southern California native starting a new adventure in Northern Idaho with her youth pastor husband, Tim. They are expecting their first child in February. She loves partnering with Tim in ministry and spends her free time baking, reading, or crafting. You can find her blogging about marriage, motherhood, and ministry at emilycgardner.com

Kalyn Brooke | Creative Savings Kalyn Brooke is a full-time writer and blogger at CreativeSavingsBlog.com, where she gives a fresh perspective on frugal living, and the kick-in-the-pants you need to create a budget from scratch. She lives in beautiful Southwest Florida with her news-photographer husband and the most adorable bunny you’ve ever seen. She loves making to-do lists, reading good books, eating chocolate peanut butter ice cream, and pursuing big dreams….all carefully planned out, of course.

How it Works:

  • Sign up here to be a part of the exchange. We will then pair you up with a partner, based on the information you filled out in the Google form. You have a chance to share your favorite genres, authors, and any books on your wish list, so use those spaces wisely!
  • All participants will be entered to win a $25 Amazon Gift Card, so you could potentially get a book for your exchange partner, and one for yourself, completely free!
  • The sign-up period will last from Monday, January 13 - Saturday, January 18, and then the form will close, and won't accept any new entries.
  • On Thursday, January 23, you will be notified of your book exchange partner, {and the winner of the Amazon Gift Card!} and have approximately 2 weeks to send or email the book you would like to exchange.
  • Friday, February 7, is the deadline to send out your book, so make sure you are able to meet that timeframe before you sign up.
  • On Monday, February 17, We Heart Books will host a conclusion post link-up on each of the hostess' blogs so make sure you follow all three. You are free to write a blog post about the exchange, the book you chose, and/or the one you receive. If you don't have a blog, please feel free to link up an Instagram picture of the book that was sent to you! We want to see your excitement, and if you don't get to the link-up right away, no worries. The linky will stay open through the end of the month.

The Rules:

As with anything, we have to establish a few rules. Doing a big online exchange has the possibility to have some quirks, and we want to make sure everything runs as smoothly as possible!
  • You will only be paired up with a book exchange partner who is sending the same type of book. That means, if you select a paperback book, you will be responsible to pay shipping, and so will your partner. Although, you can always make it easier on yourself, and send a paperback book through Amazon!
  • Use the information you receive about your partner to help choose the best book for them. You each have the option to select favorite genres, authors, and even list a few books that made it onto your wish list. You know we all have one! Get to know your partner a little bit and send the a book they would really enjoy. {And if you're worried about privacy, select the eBook option. No mailing address will be sent, only emails.}
  • Paperback books must be either new, or gently used. This is not a place to get rid of books you don't want anymore, it's a place to share your favorites.
  • eBooks must be bought and sent to the exchange partner via Amazon or an eBook author's site. With so many book bundles going around, we know there are a lot of book files sitting on your computer that you might never read. Even though it might be tempting to send, please resist, and purchase the book in a separate transaction.
  • Please do not spend more than $10.00 on your book. Our goal is to not make you spend what you don't have, especially after the holidays. So try and keep costs to a minimum, knowing that your book exchange partner will be doing the same.
  • You must send your book within the dates stated above. As you can imagine, for the book exchange to work correctly, you are committing to send a book. If for any reason you cannot participate, please email [email protected] at your earliest convenience, and we will adjust accordingly.
  • It's completely up to you what you send with your book, so use this time to get creative! Valentine's Day is coming up, so a handmade bookmark, or a short note about why you're sending that particular book, would be a pleasant surprise to your book exchange partner.
  • This isn't a requirement, but we'd love it if you shared the exchange with your friends. The more book lovers we have participating, the better the exchange, so post on your Facebook walls, send out a tweet, and grab a We Heart Books button for your blog. And be sure to use the hashtag #bookexchange14 on all of your social media outlets!
  • The paperback book exchange is only open to residents in the U.S. and Canada. If you are international, please choose the eBook option. We want to try to avoid high shipping costs if at all possible.
Are you in?

We covered a lot of information here, so if you still have questions about how this whole thing is going down, please feel free to post in our We Heart Books Facebook group or email us at [email protected] and we'll do our best to give you an answer!

We are so looking forward to the 2014 We Heart Books Virtual Exchange, and we hope you are too. So hurry and sign up to get your spot, then look for an email from your book exchange partner on January 23rd!
