For some reason, I thought meal planning would magically turn me into a kitchen connoisseur. That, of course, did not happen.
Oh, I definitely meal planned every Sunday, but when it came down to it, there were so many days where I just didn’t feel like making anything that involved an oven or a stovetop. I’m so glad we had sandwiches, homemade english muffins, and strawberry smoothies on standby for those lazy moments!
Because of this, each weekly meal plan lasted about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks — I basically spread 5 planned meals + leftovers over the course of 14 days, and the rest were just quick and easy fixes based on the ingredients we already had on hand.
But probably the biggest lesson I learned though, is that I’m much more likely to make a meal when it’s very simple. Gone are the days as a newly married when I though a gourmet meal on the table every night was what I had to do. Instead, I realize simple is better, and I’m not going to let the pressure of Pinterest guilt me into making elaborate dishes.
Time is too precious for me to put extra effort into something I’m “just ok” at and don’t particularly enjoy!
One of my very favorite things about these habits is when the Creative Savings community joins in on the fun. Everyone who shared a photo of their weekly meal plan, or any meals they made, was eligible to win a $50 gift card to Amazon.com, and our winner for this month is sarah n!

As a reminder, the purpose of 12 Mini Habits is to have 12 new habits by the end of the year, instead of resolutions that don’t last.
I’m still working on Habits #1-7, and now I’ll add Sunday meal planning to my list. I’ve definitely noticed a big difference doing these habits, and even though they might not always be perfect, at least I’m striving toward them…..and that’s progress in my mind!
If you’re interested in working through either of those previous challenges, please keep sharing photos of your journey on social media with the hashtag #12MiniHabits to be eligible for future giveaways. And if you’re completely new to this whole series, don’t be shy in joining us!
Habit #9 is already underway, so pop on over to this post for all the details.
Did you enjoy meal planning this month?
