For some reason, I thought meal planning would magically turn me into a kitchen connoisseur. That, of course, did not happen.
Oh, I definitely meal planned every Sunday, but when it came down to it, there were so many days where I just didn't feel like making anything that involved an oven or a stovetop. I'm so glad we had sandwiches, homemade english muffins, and strawberry smoothies on standby for those lazy moments!
Because of this, each weekly meal plan lasted about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks — I basically spread 5 planned meals + leftovers over the course of 14 days, and the rest were just quick and easy fixes based on the ingredients we already had on hand.
But probably the biggest lesson I learned though, is that I'm much more likely to make a meal when it's very simple. Gone are the days as a newly married when I though a gourmet meal on the table every night was what I had to do. Instead, I realize simple is better, and I'm not going to let the pressure of Pinterest guilt me into making elaborate dishes.
Time is too precious for me to put extra effort into something I'm “just ok” at and don't particularly enjoy!

I'm still working on Habits #1-7, and now I'll add Sunday meal planning to my list. I've definitely noticed a big difference doing these habits, and even though they might not always be perfect, at least I'm striving toward them…..and that's progress in my mind!
