Mmmm…..the yumminess of a grilled cheese sandwich. Doesn’t it just take you back to your childhood and a big bowl of tomato soup?

Even though grilled cheese sandwiches are easy enough to make at home, I am notorious for ordering one whenever we go out to eat at a mom and pop diner. There’s just something about a restaurant-grade grilled cheese sandwich served with a side of fries that can’t compete…..but I may have found just the solution to have my greasy spoon fix without spending a ton of cash.

This particular grilled ham and cheese sandwich combination has a few slices of ham for the meat lover, Ranch dressing for a bit of zing, and Monterey Jack cheese that oozes in all the places. It’s a complimentary party happening right inside your mouth and after just one bite, you might never go back to the original!

The Process

Step 1: Butter one slice of bread and place face down in a small skillet or pan.

Step 2: Cut 5-6 thin strips of Monterey Jack cheese and layer on top of bread.

Step 3: Layer 3 thin slices of deli ham on top of cheese {or more if you’re a meat lover!}

Step 4: Spread about a tablespoon of Ranch dressing on the other piece of bread, then place facedown on the entire sandwich and butter the top. If you’ve already buttered both pieces, you can spread the Ranch on top of the ham portion of the sandwich instead.

Or….if you’re like me, you can butter one side, lay it face down on the counter to spread Ranch on the other side, and make a complete mess. Ahem.

Step 5: Grill bottom side of sandwich on medium-to-low heat for 3-4 minutes {slow cooking toasts this baby to perfection}, then flip and grill other side for about 1-2 minutes.  Note: The other side takes half as much time to grill because the pan is already hot.

Step 6: Cut in half or diagonally and eat your delicious grilled ham and cheese sandwich!
